Will the small penny rounds make my space look too busy?

Shape has far less effect than color when it comes to looking busy. So selection of color is more important than shape in this regard. It is also important to note that single motif patterns, such as Etoile, can be scaled. Having a motif (i.e. the design itself) on every sheet is full saturation of the pattern. But sheets with the motif can be alternated with sheets of just the background color producing half-saturation, which half as busy. The ratio can be even less, 1:3 or 1:4. You can even choose how many motifs you want in the area and fill the rest in with solid background color sheets. Reducing the saturation also saves money as plain color sheets are about half the price of motif sheets.
